Some of Byzantium figures on Magnificent Hagia Sophia`s walls.. There is a Virgin Mary and Jesus ~Virgin Mother and Child~ figure on one of domes. It`s a kind of an Apse Mosaic of the Theotokos. This was the first of the post-iconoclastic mosaics. It was inaugurated on 29 March 867 by Patriarch Photius and the emperors Michael III and Basil I. On the other hand, it is possible to see some of Islamic Artworks especially on Calligraphy arts.. Furthermore Hagia Sophia is one of the greatest surviving examples of Byzantine and Islamic architecture. Of great artistic value was its decorated interior with mosaics and marble pillars, calligraphies with Islamic designs and coverings.
