Just like Mother's Day is celebrated to honor motherhood, Father's Day marks fatherhood to honor and commemorate our fathers and forefathers. In Australia, Father's Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of September and is not a public holiday. YMCA Victoria continues the tradition of honouring the role fathers, and father figures play in parenting through the annual awarding of Local Community Father of the Year in 32 municipalities in Victoria. In the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. In the US, Father's Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. Its first celebration was in Spokane, Washington on June 19, 1910. Other festivities honoring fathers had been held in Fairmont and in Creston, but the modern holiday did not emerge from those. Father's Day is a great time to let your father know you haven't forgotten him and also show him how much you value and respect him. It gives all kids an opportunity to thank and express gratitude to their fathers for all their support, love, affection and guidance throughout.
