Street photo work and a view of Sultanahmet Square and Blue Mosque, lately Sultanahmet Mosque, in springtime in front of the Sultanahmet Tram Station on May 19 (Turkish: Sokak fotoğraf çalışması ve 19 Mayıs'ta Sultanahmet Meydanı ve Sultanahmet Camii'nin ilkbahar mevsiminde Sultanahmet Tramvay Durağı önünde bir görüntüsü). The square also known as Hippodrome. In these days, the square is renewed by Fatih Municipality (Fatih Belediyesi).
The original ground level of the Hippodrome was 4 or 5 meters lower than the present surface. Three monuments have remained to our day: the Egyptian Obelisk, the Serpent Column and the Walled Obelisk. In the Turkish era, too, festivals, ceremonies and performances used to be organized here. The Palace of İbrahim Pasha opposite Sultanahmet Mosque is the sole example of the imposing private residences of the 16th century. This elegant building now houses the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art, literally Turkish Türk ve İslam Sanatları Müzesi, next to the Tapu Kadastro Müdürlüğü.
