The fortress was completed as an internal fortress in the years 1457 and four years later the conquest of Istanbul by Sultan Mehmet II through an addition to the land side built in the period of the Emperor Theodosius the 2nd (400-450) and to the most important entrance of the Byzantine City Walls called Porta Aurea (The Golden Gate) built in the period of Theodosius I (378-395). Thus the co structions of Byzantine and Ottoman ages came together.
